Langkawi: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) held a Media Retreat in Langkawi from 20th to 22nd September 2026, with the aim of further strengthening strategic relationships and bilateral tourism networks.

The program involved MBI officials as well as print, electronic, and digital media practitioners.

The delegation was led by the Corporate Director, Faridah Abdul Aziz, who also officiated the event.

Key activities included a Workshop on Effective Written Communication and the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in News Writing.

Faridah emphasized that the media is a key strategic partner of MBI in effectively delivering information to the public.

The retreat also played a role in expanding the tourism sector network through visits to various locations around Langkawi to observe development approaches and promotional strategies for destinations.

Additionally, the delegation attended a dinner event with the Langkawi Tourism Industry Practitioners Association and the Kedah Elite Media Club at Cenang Hill Beach Resort, which was attended by industry figures and media representatives from Kedah and Perak.

This session provided opportunities for experience sharing in destination development, branding, promotion, and strategic communication.

MBI hopes that these relationships can be continued and strengthened in the fields of tourism, communication, and city branding.

The organization of this retreat demonstrates MBI’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with the media, agencies, and industry for the sustainable and competitive development of Ipoh.
