MANJUNG – A total of 2,000 mangrove saplings were planted at Tanjung Kepah Beach here through the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme organised by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
The programme involved officers and personnel from the Western Fleet Command Headquarters.
RMN Western Fleet Command Headquarters said in a statement that the initiative aimed to strengthen cooperation between the RMN, the local community and relevant agencies.
This was achieved through community engagement activities and environmental conservation efforts.
“The programme began with an introductory briefing on mangrove ecosystems by a representative from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), followed by guidance from the Perak State Forestry Department on proper planting techniques.
“Following the briefing, participants worked together to plant 2,000 mangrove saplings along the Tanjung Kepah Beach area.
“The initiative reflects the RMN’s commitment to strengthening civil-military cooperation while supporting environmental conservation efforts together with the local community,” the statement said.
The programme was officiated by RMN Chief of Training and Doctrine, Rear Admiral Kamaruddin Omar, representing Western Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Dato’ Baharudin Wan Md Nor.
Also present was Assistant Director of the Silviculture and Biodiversity Division of the Perak State Forestry Department, Fakrul Hafidz Sukri.
The programme also involved various government agencies, educational institutions and village communities around Tanjung Kepah Beach.
The activity also served as a platform to raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation, particularly the preservation of mangrove ecosystems.
