By Zaki MS

TANJONG MALIM – Sultan Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, graced the official opening ceremony of the Muallim District Police Headquarters (IPD) here.

Also in attendance were Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim; Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar; and Raja DiHilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad was also present.

The Sultan subsequently officiated the Muallim IPD before touring the complex.

His Royal Highness also visited an exhibition held in conjunction with the ceremony.

In his address, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said Muallim’s rapid development required a more dynamic level of police preparedness.

He said the history of policing in Muallim dates back to April 1952, when the country faced a communist insurgency.

He said following several ambushes, the IPD administration was relocated from Tanjong Malim to Slim River on the instructions of then British High Commissioner General Sir Gerald Templer.

At the time, the police force in Slim River operated from a small station with only one corporal and three personnel.

He said the development continued with the construction of a new IPD complex in Slim River in the 1980s to meet growing operational requirements.

The new Muallim IPD complex was subsequently developed beginning December 27, 2017, at RM85 million on a site measuring approximately 11.34 hectares.

He said the project, handed over on October 15, 2025, now serves as a modern operational hub equipped with technology, communication systems and support facilities to strengthen security across the Muallim district.
