Good news for women in Ipoh who may have put off health screening because of cost.
Free breast and cervical cancer checks are coming to Buntong this October. The one-day initiative hopes to reach 150 women, particularly those from B40 communities.

Organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh, District 330, the programme will take place on Sunday, October 25, at Malaysia Aruloli Mantram in Buntong.
It is supported by Persatuan Pink Champion Perak, Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) and Hospital Batu Gajah.
This is also a health campaign where the family is encouraged to get involved.
Husbands, fathers and brothers are invited to come along and support the women in their families. Eligible family members can also take part in the blood donation drive being held alongside the screening programme.
The organisers hope this will make womenโs health something families can support together, rather than something women have to manage on their own.

Women attending will receive a free Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) carried out by trained healthcare providers. Those found to be at risk will be referred to hospitals for further assessment and mammogram screening.
Women aged 40 and above who are eligible for mammograms may also receive vouchers through LPPKNโs Mammogram Subsidy Programme.
The campaign also includes free HPV DNA testing for married women aged 30 to 65.
HPV infection is a major risk factor associated with cervical cancer. Screening can help identify women who may require further medical assessment and follow up.
The day is also about giving women better information about their health. Participants can learn about breast and cervical cancer, including risk factors, symptoms to look out for and the importance of getting checked early.
Information will be available in Bahasa Malaysia, Tamil and Mandarin. This will make it easier for women from different communities to understand the screening process and ask questions in a language they are comfortable with.

There is no advance registration.
Women can simply walk in on the day. So, if you know a mother, sister, friend, neighbour or colleague who could benefit, share this with her and consider going together.
