IPOH: Blocked drains along Jalan Labrooy in Taman Merdeka and Jalan Muhibbah in Taman Lim here were caused by rubbish, including plastic bottles and sand deposits obstructing water flow.
Ipoh City Council (MBI) Buntong zone councillor Lawrence Palanisamy said he had visited the affected areas recently after receiving complaints from residents about the problem.

He said the visit was also attended by representatives from MBI’s Public Works Department and Puncak Emas Infra Sdn Bhd (PEISB).
“Inspections found several drains and scupper drains blocked by rubbish, including plastic bottles, helmets, balls and other items. Sand deposits and overgrown vegetation also obstructed water flow.
“MBI’s Public Works Department instructed the concessionaire to carry out cleaning works immediately.
“Following this, PEISB carried out cleaning works on drains and road shoulders in the affected areas to improve water flow and ensure the drainage system was free from rubbish and obstructions.
“These efforts will help reduce the risk of stagnant water and flash floods, while ensuring residential areas remain clean, comfortable and safe.
“I would like to express my appreciation to MBI, PEISB and all parties involved for their prompt action. Thank you also to concerned residents who continue to lodge complaints for the well-being of the community,” he said.

Lawrence also urged residents and members of the public to dispose of their rubbish properly and refrain from littering, particularly in drains and drainage systems.
“Blocked drains disrupt water flow and can increase the risk of flash floods. This can also affect residents’ homes, property and safety.
“Let us work together to keep our neighbourhoods clean. Everyone’s concern and cooperation are essential in creating a safer and more liveable environment,” he added.
