3 Days Left! Don’t Miss Serendipity 2.0 Ceramic Art Exhibition in Ipoh

By Anne Das
Who knew clay could be so much fun?
Roaring dragons, lifelike animals and tiny moonlit villages are just some of the surprises waiting at Serendipity 2.0. There are colourful underwater worlds and anime-inspired creations too.
And if you haven’t seen them yet, you have until this Sunday, October 25, to catch the exhibition at 22 Hale Street Heritage Gallery in Ipoh.

Presented by The Living Art Ceramic Studio, the exhibition features over 200 works by 15 exhibitors, comprising one teacher and 14 students.
With so many different personalities and styles on display, there’s something to catch your eye at every turn.
One artist has created an enchanting little village nestled inside a crescent moon, complete with miniature houses and a hanging lantern. Another has turned familiar anime characters into colourful ceramic pieces.

Animal lovers will enjoy the detailed sculptures of lions, bears and other creatures, while Sue Speed’s dragon and iguana look almost ready to spring to life.
There’s an entire underwater world to explore too, with intricate corals, turtles and fish. Elsewhere, visitors will find abstract sculptures, wood-fired pottery, forest-inspired creations and whimsical little houses.
It’s a wonderful reminder that ceramic art can be anything the imagination allows.

The exhibition is the brainchild of Ng Sook Peng, founder of The Living Art Ceramic Studio, who has spent 26 years working with clay and sharing her passion with others.
For Sook Peng, ceramics is as much about the experience of creating as it is about the finished piece. She encourages people of all ages, including retirees and working adults, to give pottery a try.
And there’s a reason behind the name Serendipity.

Working with clay comes with surprises. Glazes can change colour, textures develop unexpectedly and the firing process doesn’t always produce what an artist had in mind.
Sometimes, those happy accidents turn out to be the most interesting part.
It’s this sense of discovery that brings the exhibition together, with each artist showing what can happen when creativity meets a lump of clay.

So, if you’re wondering what to do in Ipoh this weekend, here’s something a little different.
Take a wander through the gallery, admire the craftsmanship and perhaps discover a new hobby along the way.
