PCSH more than doubles workforce to 570 in five years

IPOH: The  Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) has more than doubled its workforce from 270 in 2021 to 570 this year, in line with the expansion of its facilities and healthcare services.

PCSH Board Director, Dato’ Lim Si Boon said the growth followed the opening of new wards and a new Emergency Department, increased Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity, as well as the development of other healthcare services.

He said the hospital’s 120-year journey reflected the resilience, dedication and enduring legacy of an institution that had served generations despite facing various challenges and changes.

“This achievement did not happen on its own, but was driven by the commitment of generations of leaders, healthcare professionals and staff, as well as the support of the Board of Directors and the local community.

“However, preserving this legacy is not simply about remembering the past, but ensuring that future generations can continue and build on what has been achieved,” he said in his opening address at the PCSH Annual Dinner 2026 at Weil Hotel, Ipoh, recently.

He said the hospital’s expansion must be accompanied by improvements in management quality, workforce capabilities and operational systems to enhance patient care.

“The priority is not merely to build a bigger hospital, but also to improve service quality and patient safety.

“PCSH must continue to develop staff skills, nurture future leaders and strengthen teamwork and cooperation across departments.

“Operational systems must also be improved, appropriate technology adopted and working methods continuously enhanced to meet patients’ needs,” he said.

Lim added that the hospital’s success should not be measured solely by its size and facilities, but also by the quality of treatment, patient safety and public trust.

Patients must receive respectful and compassionate care while having confidence in the hospital’s medical capabilities.

He said PCSH, as a charitable hospital recognised under Section 127 of the Income Tax Act 1967, also had a responsibility to assist those in need.

“Social responsibility must be balanced with financial sustainability to ensure continued investment in our workforce, facilities and medical services.

“The future of PCSH requires cooperation from all parties, a willingness to embrace change and a shared commitment to excellence,” he said.
