IPOH – Sultan Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has graciously sponsored lunch meals for 8,960 prisoners and detainees in conjunction with His Royal Highness’s 70th birthday celebration.
The beneficiaries comprise inmates from Tapah Prison, Taiping Prison, Kamunting Correctional Centre, Batu Gajah Correctional and Moral Rehabilitation Centre, and Chenderiang Correctional Centre.
The other two institutions are Kuala Kangsar Satellite Prison and Perak Halfway House.

The presentation ceremony for the food contribution was officiated by Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja, General (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, at the Batu Gajah Correctional Centre.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner-General of Prisons (Correctional), Rosoman Abu Bakar.
The contribution, amounting to RM143,360, was not merely an act of providing food assistance but also reflected the Sultan of Perak’s concern and compassion for the welfare of prisoners and detainees.

The initiative is also expected to boost their morale and provide encouragement for them to lead more positive lives, while strengthening their self-confidence throughout the rehabilitation process.
Meanwhile, a total of 58 prisoners have received pardons through the Perak State Pardons Board and have been granted early release.
The early release programme represents a second chance for those involved to rebuild their lives, turn over a new leaf and return to their families and society.
It is hoped that they will make the most of this opportunity by embracing a more positive lifestyle, complying with the law and becoming responsible and productive members of society.
