Ipoh, 22 September – YB Jenny, Councillor Deric Lee, Mr. Arif and his team from Ipoh City Council, Councillor Lam Yew Tact and others, gathered at Canning Garden Market at Persiaran Cecil Rae this morning to provide clarity on the ongoing construction works that began early July this year.

The project is now 65 percent done and is expected to be completed by mid-October with the intention of upgrading the drainage system and adding 50 new parking bays for the visitor and residents.
“Business will go on as usual during construction,” YB Jenny assured.
They have assured that the drainage upgrade will not affect the surrounding areas.
However, in order to complete the works, there may be brief disruptions to water and electricity supply.
These will depend on notifications from Perak Water Board (LAP) and Tenaga National Berhad (TNB).
Vendors and the community will be informed in advance once schedules are confirmed.

Back in February 2025, Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) YB Nga Kor Ming and YB Jenny visited the market to listen to the concerns of hawkers and residents.
Issues highlighted included drainage problems and insufficient parking, which had led to parking fines for visitors and difficulties for traders.

Vendors who were met at the market expressed that they are happy with the ongoing works and feel well taken care.

YB Jenny also stated that any concerns during this period can be directed to her and her team.
Previously, Canning Market received RM500,000 for repainting and facility upgrades.
With an additional RM430,000 now allocated, the total funding for market improvements amounts to RM930,000.
The State Government and Ipoh City Council will continue to work closely with KPKT to improve public facilities, ensuring that Canning Market remains a vital hub for the community.
They are committed to work hand in hand to see this project through successfully and to ensure it is completed smoothly.
