TANJUNG MALIM – Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student Ng Zhen Fan Shankar has been named the National Student Icon 2025 at the Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Negara (ATSN) ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel Putrajaya recently.


The award was presented by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, who also handed over a RM5,000 mock cheque, a mobility grant, a trophy, and a certificate to the recipient.
Originally from Klang, Selangor, Shankar recently completed his Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) degree and is set to further his studies at the master’s level.
An active student leader and volunteer, Shankar previously served in the UPSI Student Representative Council, held the post of Honorary Treasurer, and was elected President of the Faculty of Management and Economics Association.


Another UPSI student, Abbas Ali Iftikhar Hussain, also brought pride to the university by winning the Student Sustainability Award, further strengthening UPSI’s reputation at the national level.
Zambry said programmes such as the ATSN not only recognise outstanding students but also nurture leadership qualities within campuses.
UPSI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Md. Amin Md. Taff described the recognition as proof that UPSI students continue to excel at the national level.
