TAIPING: Residents of Lorong B, Aulong Lama here have expressed disappointment and frustration over the lack of action by the local authorities regarding a residential premise that has been turned into a hardware workshop.

According to a residents’ representative, Thurairaj Raj, the presence of the hardware workshop in the housing area has not only caused disturbance but has also affected public peace and safety.

He claimed that he has repeatedly raised the issue with the Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) since early last year, but no action has been taken against the premises owner.

“I am representing the residents of Lorong B, Aulong Lama. We are not looking for trouble, but we have endured this for far too long.

“Imagine living next to a premise where there is constant noise every day — metal cutting, hammering, welding.

“The loud banging goes on from morning until evening. This is a residential area, but it now feels like an open workshop.

“Not to mention the uncontrolled movement of lorries coming in and out, even forklifts using the public road in front of our homes. Roads that were once in good condition are now damaged. When it rains, water pools; when it’s hot, it becomes dusty. Residents who walk along the road no longer feel safe.

“All reports have been lodged, but there is still no action. The noise continues and the disturbances are getting worse,” he said.

He added that various efforts have been made to resolve the issue, including meeting the Aulong State Assemblyman (ADUN) several times, but the matter remains unresolved.

Nevertheless, he expressed his appreciation to several departments that have provided assistance, including the Road Transport Department, the Department of Environment, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the police.

He said that despite approaching many agencies, all gave the same response — that only the local authority has the power to resolve the issue.

“I have complete documentation on the problems affecting this neighbourhood. I have lodged complaints through various channels, including letters, online submissions and the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA).

“I am not blaming MPT as a whole, but I appeal to the officers involved to please help resolve this issue.

“What I understand is that the matter was referred to the Land Office, but the Land Office has clearly explained their procedures and protocols. In the end, it still comes back to MPT,” he said.

He therefore hopes that the relevant authorities will step forward to assist the residents, as all efforts made so far have failed to bring a solution.
