By: Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

LAHAT: The compassion of a local supermarket chain was evident when Econsave Klebang Branch stepped forward to provide assistance to a child battling a tumour, helping to ease the financial burden of the family.

The aid, channelled through the Econsave Prihatin Programme, was presented by Econsave Klebang Branch Manager Hirwaini Yahaya to the family of Firas Affan Mohd Fauzi, aged one year and four months, who is currently undergoing intensive cancer treatment.

Hirwaini said the company was moved to extend assistance after the plight of Firas Affan drew public attention.

“The story of Firas Affan Mohd Fauzi caught our attention and prompted us to step forward with aid through the Econsave Prihatin Programme.

“The assistance, comprising necessities worth RM1,000 along with RM300 in vouchers, is hoped to help ease the family’s financial burden.

“Although the contribution may be modest, we hope it will help reduce their daily expenses,” she said when met.

Meanwhile, the child’s father, Mohd Fauzi Saad, 43, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the contribution.

“I am deeply touched by this assistance and did not expect to receive so many essential items.

“I will use the voucher to buy Hari Raya clothes for my children and other festive necessities.

“Thank you to Econsave for extending this assistance, which truly helps to ease our monthly expenses,” he said when met at his home recently.

Speaking about his child’s latest condition, Mohd Fauzi said his son’s vision in both eyes had been affected after undergoing his third chemotherapy session, raising concern for the family.

“I believe the issue may be due to the effects of chemotherapy, possibly affecting the eye nerves.

“However, doctors have informed us that they will continue monitoring my child’s vision after the chemotherapy treatment is completed,” he said.

The story of Firas Affan was previously reported by the Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic portal on December 19, 2025, and has since attracted attention from various parties who have come forward to offer assistance.

The child is currently receiving intensive treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun after being diagnosed with an extragonadal germ cell tumour (EGCT) on the right side of his face.

According to medical reports, an extragonadal germ cell tumour is a cancer that develops outside the reproductive organs and can attack surrounding tissues, with the potential to spread to other parts of the body. The condition requires intensive treatment, including biopsy, chemotherapy and surgery.

Members of the public who wish to contribute may channel donations to Maybank account 158172934125 (Mohd Fauzi Saad), contact 011-11983431, or visit the family’s residence at No. 62, Persiaran 10, Bandar Baru Lahat, Perak.
