An Elegant Spread This Ramadan at AC Hotel Ipoh

By Anne Das

During Ramadan, hotel buffets can often feel like a numbers game. There is usually a wide selection to choose from, and often more on the table than one can comfortably enjoy. Here at AC Hotel by Marriott Ipoh, it feels different.

THE AC LOUNGE is stylish & modern serving European-inspired tapas, small bites, and signature cocktails

The hotel is positioned as a modern, minimalist property with facilities that cater to business, leisure and social gatherings. Clean lines and an uncluttered space make it easy on the eye, offering a calm setting from the moment you walk in.

With several dining spaces within the hotel, each offers a different experience. AC Kitchen brings together continental and Malaysian influences, Luk Yu Tea House focuses on Cantonese cuisine, while the AC Lounge offers a more relaxed setting for drinks and tapas.

At AC Kitchen, the hotel’s main dining space, the layout is open and comfortable, allowing guests to move easily between stations. During the Ramadan period, the AC Festive Feast Dinner Buffet is served here, with a spread built around familiar dishes, prepared well.

The Festive Buffet Dinner brings together a mix of Malay, Chinese and Western selections, a combination that Malaysians are comfortable with. It is a spread that offers something for different tastes without overwhelming the senses.

Local favourites include ayam kurma, chicken curry, vegetable dhal and freshly made murtabak. Seafood options include chilli clams, kam heong squid and black pepper crab, all of which can be paired beautifully with the hotel’s mantao buns.

Grilled items feature prominently, including whole lamb carved fresh at the station, along with satay, prawns, squid and stingray. The satay is worth going back for, well marinated, properly grilled, and served with a peanut sauce that is rich and slightly spicy.

At the live cooking station, dishes are prepared upon request, including Ipoh favourites such as kai see hor fun and curry noodles, served hot and fresh from the stove.

Head Chef Razlee Bin Sutarchio, who leads a 15-member culinary team, keeps the focus on consistency and quality throughout the season. “We work with fresh ingredients and maintain a good balance across the menu. There are also rotating selections, so returning guests can expect some variation across the evenings.”

The dessert section rounds off the evening with chilled desserts, local sweets, ais kacang and ice cream. A must try here is the Sago Gula Melaka, served with fresh coconut cream and loved for its smoky, caramel-like sweetness from the Premium Coconut Sugar.

There are also lighter selections. The mango pudding is a crowd favourite, smooth and refreshing, while chilled longan offers a cooling contrast to end the meal. A range of cold beverages is available throughout the evening, alongside premium coffee and tea for a more refined finish.

Evenings here settle into an unhurried rhythm, with a setting that lends itself naturally to conversation around the table. Service is good, with the F&B team on the ball, a detail that gives the dining experience its edge.

General Manager Peter Gomez of AC Hotel Ipoh shares, “This Ramadan, we welcome the Ipoh community to experience AC Kitchen and the different spaces we’ve created. We want the experience here to be special. Well-prepared food, attentive service, and a comfortable setting.”
