IPOH, — Four premises in the city were found displaying 10 donation boxes suspected of operating without permission from the Majlis Agama Islam dan ‘Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk).

According to the Enforcement Division of the Jabatan Agama Islam Perak (JAIPk), all the donation boxes were seized, and notices ordering attendance at the Enforcement Division were issued to the four food premises owners to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992.

The action was part of an integrated Ramadan operation carried out today in collaboration with the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) and the Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh.

The operation aimed to ensure compliance with syariah law, public health regulations and business licensing requirements around the Ipoh district.

“This integrated operation involved inspections of 12 food premises and focused on enforcement related to offences such as disrespecting Ramadan.

“It also covered offences involving unauthorised donation collections, compliance with business licensing requirements, as well as hygiene and food handling safety standards,” the statement said.

At the same time, the Ipoh City Council issued three summonses against three premises for failing to display business licences as required under local authority regulations.

“Through the inter-agency operation, which also involved officers from the Perak State Health Department and the Kinta District Health Office, a total of 16 offence notices were issued under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 for violations related to food handler attire.

“A total of 15 cases involved failure to comply with food handler dress requirements under Regulation 32(1)(b), including not wearing covered shoes and aprons while handling food.

“In addition, one case was recorded under Regulation 33(1)(f) for a food handler wearing accessories while carrying out duties,” it added.

The operation involved 31 enforcement personnel, comprising 16 JAIPk religious enforcement officers, six Ipoh City Council personnel, two officers from the Perak State Health Department, and seven personnel from the Kinta District Health Office.
