Prioritise Waste, Road and Drainage Management – Mayor

By: Aida Aziz

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) must return to basics by prioritising waste management, road maintenance, drainage systems, landscaping, and street lighting.

The call was made by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, who also wants MBI staff to continue strengthening integrity, efficiency, and sincerity in delivering services to the public.

This is particularly crucial in ensuring the consistent and high-quality delivery of essential public services.

“What is important is not what the people of Ipoh see, but what they feel. The daily experience of Ipoh residents is the true measure of our service,” he said.

He said this in conjunction with the Mayor’s Meet-and-Greet Programme with MBI staff 2026 held today.

The event also brought together former Ipoh Mayors, namely Datuk Ahmad Saleh Sarif, Datuk Roshidi Hashim, and Datuk Harun Rawi.

Meanwhile, Zamakhshari said the public should adopt a simple lifestyle, avoid waste, and avoid being easily influenced by unverified news as the world faces a global energy crisis.

“Community resilience begins with our own attitudes. Avoid spreading unverified information and panic buying. Instead, follow authorities’ instructions and refer to accurate sources,” he added.

He also reaffirmed MBI’s commitment to realising the MBI Strategic Plan 2021–2030, which serves as a guide for Ipoh’s development towards becoming a smart, sustainable, and prosperous city.

Among the key aspirations of the plan are to make Ipoh a clean, major tourism destination and a low-carbon city.

However, he reminded that the success of the plan depends on implementation that delivers real impact to the well-being of Ipoh residents.
