IPOH: Financial hardship did not stand in the way of a teenager from Waller Court Apartments, who achieved an impressive 8As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
The achievement was made even more remarkable as Sarwin, who has lived at Waller Court since childhood, secured a place at the National University of Malaysia under its Foundation Programme for Gifted Students.

According to Buntong assemblyman Thulsi Manogaran, a new laptop worth RM2,100 was presented to Sarwin in recognition of his academic success and to support his transition into university life.
“Sarwin is a former student of SMK ACS and successfully obtained 8As in his SPM examination.
“However, his journey has not been an easy one. Coming from a B40 family, the six-member household relies entirely on his father, who takes on various odd jobs, while his mother is a homemaker.
“For the past 64 years, his family has lived in Waller Court, paying rent for decades for a home that is now ageing and in a deteriorating condition.
“I visited Waller Court Apartments to personally witness the living conditions faced by Sarwin and his family.
“Despite numerous financial challenges, Sarwin remained fully focused on his studies and achieved excellent academic results through determination, hard work and perseverance,” Thulsi said.

Meanwhile, Sarwin expressed his gratitude for the contribution, noting that he previously did not own a laptop.
He said the assistance would greatly benefit his studies and help him as he begins his academic journey at university.
