IPOH: Tambun has long been synonymous with producing high-quality pomelos, making it one of the area’s most recognised agricultural products and a popular attraction for visitors.
For many, a trip to Tambun would not be complete without purchasing the famed pomelos as souvenirs to take home.

Recognising the importance of preserving the area’s identity, 35 volunteers from the Tambun Fruit and Pomelo Growers Association and the Tambun UMNO branch recently joined forces in a community effort to repaint the iconic Tambun pomelo landmark.
Ipoh City Council (MBI) Chief Whip, Mazlan Abd Rahman, said the spirit of volunteerism demonstrated during the programme reflected Malaysians’ continued commitment to maintaining cleanliness, beautification and the image of their local communities.
“The Tambun pomelo landmark was established as a symbol of the area’s identity, which is closely associated with the production of quality pomelos and serves as one of the local tourism attractions.
“After many years, it is time for the landmark to be given a fresh new look so that it remains attractive and continues to be a source of pride for local residents,” he said.

Also present were Tambun Fruit and Pomelo Growers Association chairman Law Voon Hing and local pomelo entrepreneur Wong Jia Jun, who also introduced pomelo juice products to visitors during the event.
Mazlan said preserving the identity of the Tambun pomelo should not rest solely on growers and producers, but should be a shared responsibility as the fruit represents both a tourism product and a heritage symbol of the Tambun community.
“Thank you to everyone who attended and worked together to make this programme a success. We hope the Tambun pomelo will continue to be recognised, promoted and remain a source of pride for future generations,” he added.
