PUO’s Gerobok Rezeki Initiative Supports Students

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: Caring for students’ welfare remains a top priority for Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO).

The PUO Student Representative Committee (JPP) has launched Gerobok Rezeki 5.0, an initiative that provides free breakfast to students every Friday throughout the semester.

Now in its fifth edition, the programme distributes 100 packets of nasi lemak to students across two campuses.

Of the total, 70 packets are distributed at the Main Campus, Dewan Warisan, while the remaining 30 are allocated to the Bercham Campus.

The initiative, first introduced during the 2021/2022 Student Representative Council (MPP) leadership, will continue until Week 14 as part of efforts to assist students, particularly those in need.

It also aims to ensure students begin their learning sessions feeling more comfortable and energised.

PUO Director, Dr Hajah Salmi Che Meh, said Gerobok Rezeki is more than just a welfare programme; it symbolises the caring culture that continues to be strengthened within the campus community.

“PUO is not only committed to producing outstanding TVET graduates, but also to ensuring that the welfare of our students is always a priority.

“Gerobok Rezeki demonstrates that the spirit of togetherness and mutual support can help create a more prosperous and inclusive campus ecosystem,” she said.

She added that the programme’s success also reflects the strong synergy between educational institutions, government agencies, the private sector and the community in safeguarding students’ well-being.

“I hope more organisations and individuals will come forward to contribute and collaborate with PUO so that the benefits of this programme can be extended to even more students in the future,” she said.

The implementation of Gerobok Rezeki 5.0 is supported by several contributors, namely TepiHaus Taman Cempaka, Majlis Belia Perak, Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah, Dellamar Coffee, and the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk).
