SUNWAY CITY, 27 July 2026 – Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), the largest private quaternary hospital in Malaysia, has partnered with Klinik Kesihatan Taman Medan to support Health Ministry’s National Health Screening Initiative (NHSI), reinforcing its shared commitment to advancing healthcare excellence and improving community wellbeing.
The screening has benefited over 900 staff of SMC during the three-day screening to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. The screening encompasses vital health checks including blood sugar levels, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and cholesterol, while female staff also underwent breast screening and HPV screening for early detection of breast and cervical cancers.
The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023 on NCDs found that over half a million, or 2.5 percent of adults in Malaysia are living with four NCDs namely diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity. The report also revealed that two in five adults aged 18 and above did not do any health screening for NCDs in the past 12 months.
For cancer screening, 46 percent of women aged 18 and above did not perform breast self-examination in the past 12 months, while 65 percent of women aged 20 and above also did not undergo any pap smear test in the past 3 years.
Early detection of NCDs is critical in managing severe complications arising from the diseases, such as kidney disease and heart disease – conditions which often progress silently before turning life-threatening.
Notably, obesity has been a key driver in the development of cardiovascular diseases as well as metabolic disorders. This initiative directly addresses the risk factors associated with the diseases, making its objectives both timely and medically important.

NHSI is one of the initiatives under the Healthy Malaysia National Agenda aims to detect, prevent, and manage NCDs through early intervention.
Screening results and summaries will be recorded and displayed in the MySejahtera application.
