IPOH – The younger generation, particularly school students, have been reminded to appreciate the true meaning of the independence enjoyed by the country.
As the nation’s future leaders, students need to possess a strong sense of patriotism and always uphold their love for the country.
Chairman of the Kinta India Ipoh Social Welfare, Sports and Cultural Association, P. Uvarajan, said National Day celebrations should not merely be viewed as an annual event, but also as an opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by previous generations.
He said the spirit of patriotism could be instilled through mutual respect, maintaining unity and appreciating the diversity of Malaysian society.
Uvarajan also urged students to become responsible members of society who can contribute to the country’s development in the future.
He said the younger generation plays an important role in ensuring that peace and harmony in the country continue to be preserved.
Earlier, Uvarajan attended the Merdeka Eve Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Pari here as a guest.
The programme, held at the school’s assembly grounds, was organised to foster the spirit of independence among the school community.
The programme also provided students with an opportunity to embrace the spirit of patriotism and strengthen the values of unity among the school community.
