Three killed, nine injured in crash involving 12 motorcycles, three cars

IPOH: Three motorcyclists were killed while nine others were injured in a crash involving 12 motorcycles and three cars along Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here early this morning.

Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police received a public report about the accident at 3.35 am.

He said preliminary investigations found that all the vehicles involved were travelling from Meru towards Tambun when the crash occurred.

“Two men, aged 19 and 20, who were riding motorcycles, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Meanwhile, nine male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 25 sustained injuries of varying severity and were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for treatment.

“A 19-year-old male motorcyclist who was receiving treatment was later pronounced dead at the Red Zone of the Emergency and Trauma Department at HRPB,” he said in a statement today.

Muhammad Najib said the three car drivers involved in the accident were reported to be uninjured.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Police are conducting further investigations to determine the cause and sequence of the accident,” he said.

Members of the public with information on the incident are urged to assist the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters.

Police also advised all road users to comply with traffic regulations, control their speed and prioritise safety while on the road.
