SHANGHAI: The Mayor of Ipoh, Zamakhshari Hanipah, attended the Opening Ceremony of Tomorrow City Shanghai 2026 held at Zhangjiang Hall, Shanghai, China, on Tuesday.
The event brought together Malaysian delegates along with leaders, experts, and city representatives from various countries to discuss the development direction of smart cities, technological innovation, and future urban governance.
The participation of the Ipoh Mayor and the Malaysian delegation in this international program provided an opportunity for the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to stay updated on the latest developments related to smart city technology, service digitalization, smart mobility, and sustainable urban development.
It also served as a platform to expand collaboration networks and knowledge exchange with local authorities.
International experts and smart city solution providers aligned with MBI’s aspirations to enhance Ipoh as a smart, sustainable, livable, and prosperous city.
Among the main activities was a keynote session titled Malaysia’s Smart City Development and Future, delivered by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming.
The program continued with the Global Leadership Award Ceremony – World Smart City Awards: Belt and Road Region, followed by the High-Level Roundtable on Global Smart City Development, featuring representatives and city leaders from several countries to share experiences and approaches related to smart city development.
Also held were the Launch Ceremony for the World Tomorrow City Community – Digital City Glocalisation (GLOCAL) Cooperation Initiative and the launch of the 2026 Global City Challenges & Opportunities List.
As part of the program, Zamakhshari is also scheduled to participate in a closed-door discussion session on Smart Mobility, in addition to attending several networking programs with delegates from Malaysian local authorities.
