MANJUNG – A total of 772 dogs were captured in 281 stray dog-catching operations conducted by the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) from January to September.
MPM President Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri said the enforcement actions were carried out under the MPM Animal Licensing and Roaming Animals By-Laws 2012 and the MDM Dog Licensing By-Laws 1993.

He said the operations involved five key steps, beginning with patrols, monitoring, and follow-up action on public complaints.
“This is followed by the capture and seizure of dogs, the safekeeping of seized animals, and the management of animals that are claimed or remain unclaimed.
“The next step involves disposal through appropriate methods, including the transfer of dogs to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the Department of Veterinary Services,” he said in a statement.

In a related development, MPM handed over 13 dogs to the NGO Homeless Paws of Manjung Stray Dog on October 15.
The handover was part of collaborative efforts between the local authority and NGOs to manage stray animals.
“Through its Stray Animals Unit, MPM is responsible for managing and controlling stray dogs to safeguard public cleanliness, safety and community well-being.
“Cooperation between MPM and NGOs is expected to help ensure that stray dog management is carried out in a more organised and responsible manner,” he said.
These efforts also help balance residents’ safety and comfort with considerations for animal welfare.
