Malaysians Don’t Appreciate Local Heritage

Re Mariam Mokhtar’s article, “Why Can’t Malaysians Appreciate Their Local Heritage?”

I keep asking myself over and over again. I am still stumped because I feel the pain of our recent history gradually wiped off the landscape or altered beyond recognition of its origins. I think the blame lies squarely with the legislators, who hold the ultimate power whether a building remains or what can or cannot be done to it. In fast expanding Ipoh, that consideration is as always, not worth a bother. Most folk do not seem to have a culture of preserving heritage.
