28th Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament

A media conference on the 28th Sultan Azlan Shah Men’s Hockey Tournament, helmed by Dato’ Abd Rahim Md Ariff, took place at Impiana Hotel, Ipoh on Monday, January 14. Rahim is the organising chairman.

The tournament will be held from Saturday, March 23 till Saturday, March 30 at Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium, Ipoh. It will be hosted by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, Perak Hockey Association and Raja Ashman Shah AHF Hockey Academy. Admission is free.

Participating countries are India, Canada, Malaysia, South Africa, Korea and Japan. Regulars Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Pakistan, Argentina, Belgium, Great Britain, Netherlands and Spain are giving this year’s tournament a miss. They will be competing in the 2019 Hockey Pro League taking place from January 19 to June 23, instead.

Their absence, said Rahim, brightens Malaysia’s chance of winning the tournament something which they have not since the tournament’s inception.
