Hiker Lost in Gunung Korbu

A search and rescue (SAR) task force to locate a lost 68-year-old hiker was executed today.

The hiker, Tee Kong Tiong, was with his 42-year-old hiking partner last Friday before getting separated on the way down the hill paths.

According to the chief police officer of Ipoh, Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz, the hiker was reported missing by his child at the Shah Alam district police headquarters after he got in touch with the said hiking partner around 4pm yesterday.

“The Ipoh district police headquarters was informed on the matter around 10.42pm yesterday,” he said. “The state fire and rescue department was contacted straight after to execute the SAR task force.

“It’s to our understanding that the hiker is still actively involved with his hiking hobbies,” A. Asmadi mentioned. “This is his fifth time climbing up Gunung Korbu.”

The task force also comprises the Tiger Platoon General Operations Force, K9 Unit, State Forestry Department and Perak Water Board.

As of evening today, the missing hiker is yet to be found.
