Following detection of a COVID-19 infection, a school here in Ipoh, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jati located at Meru, was ordered to close for a week immediately today (November 5) until next Wednesday (November 11).

According to the director of Perak State Education Department, Dr Mohd Suhaimi Mohamed Ali, the temporary closure is to facilitate cleaning and disinfecting works by the Ministry of Health (MOH) with aid from the State Fire and Rescue Department.

“School administrators have been instructed to ensure that teachers and students maintain lessons at their homes during this period,” he explained in a media statement released today.

“The school will reopen Thursday (November 12), once the school surroundings are verified safe for conduction of school sessions,” Mohd Suhaimi mentioned.

SMK Jati is the third school in Ipoh to be closed temporarily due to COVID-19 infection, after Sekolah Izzuddin Shah along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (Tiger Lane) and Sekolah Raja Perempuan Taayah along Jalan Raja Dihilir, since October 23.
