ZTNS’ 60th Anniversary

Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) has a multitude of programmes lined up in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) of Zoo Taiping and Night Safari (ZTNS), starting yesterday (March 7).

According to the president of MPT, Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir, ZTNS, also known as Taman Mergastua Sultan Idris Shah, was established by members of the Taiping Local Government Management Board in 1961. The park was officiated by the late Sultan Idris Shah on March 7, 1964.

“To commemorate ZTNS’ 60th anniversary, MPT has chosen March 7, 2021 as the date of the Diamond Jubilee celebration.

“The zoo started out with only 10 acres, in comparison to 36 acres today following the addition of total animals and overall species to successfully implement the open cage exhibition concept, up to this point in which the zoo is recognised as an international-level tourism product,” he said in his speech.

Also present were the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi and chief executive officer of Tourism Perak, Nurmalis Musa.

In conjunction with the anniversary, ZTNS is offering entrance tickets free of charge for visitors aged 60 for the entire year of 2021, which starts March 7 lasting till December 31.

Some of the programmes to be implemented are the International Tiger Day on July 31, aimed at increasing public awareness of the ‘Save Our Tigers’ campaign, and the annual ‘ZOORAMA’ held from September 11 to 18, filled with various interesting segments to be joined by visitors.

Khairul Amir added, ZTNS will be releasing special souvenirs such as ‘60th Anniversary’ T-shirts, caps, face masks and mugs.

“For more information regarding all programmes, head to MPT’s official website, Facebook, and also Taiping Zoo’s Facebook page,” he mentioned.
