MB Visits Fire Incident Location in Kuala Kurau

A fire that destroyed five shops in a row at Kampung Simpang 3, Kuala Kurau received attention from the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, who went to the location to review the situation yesterday (March 9).

Saarani, who’s in the midst of the Menteri Besar Bersama Rakyat (Mesra) programme in the district of Kerian rushed to the place of incident once informed of the disaster.

The fire destroyed shops comprising grocery stores, shophouses and a catfish eatery which is famous among locals there.

During the visit, Saarani said that the state government will look at suitable aid to be channeled in lessening burdens of the victims.

“We’re informed that most of the victims are tenants, not original owners. Despite this, it’s still a huge loss to them,” he stated.

During the incident which happened around 2pm, the fire and rescue squad’s swift actions successfully controlled the fire from spreading to two more adjacent shop units.

According to the acting deputy director of operations for the State Fire and Rescue Department, Muhamad Shahrizal Aris, some 24 officers and personnel from fire stations at Kuala Kurau, Parit Buntar and Bagan Serai were deployed for the operation.

He added that no casualties were reported, as all involved premises weren’t operating.

“The cause of fire is still under investigation and an operation is currently still ongoing to ensure the fire source is put out completely. We were also assisted by six volunteer fire brigades,” Muhamad Shahrizal mentioned.
