Lorry Destroyed by Fire, Driver Unscathed

A lorry transporting iron loops was destroyed in a fire that occurred at KM375.2 of the PLUS North-South Expressway (Southbound) earlier today (May 6).

A spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department said that an emergency call was received at around 6.06am.

“A squad and a vehicle from the Slim River Fire and Rescue Station were immediately rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was shown that the lorry skidded to the middle of the road and it was already 90 percent consumed by fire.

“The squad used two hose reels with three water-based foam units to extinguish the fire.

“The lorry driver managed to save himself before the rescue squad’s arrival,” he explained.

The situation was brought under control by 7.57am. The operation was led by Senior Fire Officer II Shamsul Osman.
