Giant Panda Liang Liang Gave Birth to Third Cub

The country’s giant panda, Liang Liang gave birth to a baby at the Giant Panda Conservation Center in the National Zoo (Zoo Negara) yesterday (May 31).

This is the third baby of Liang Liang (female panda) and Xing Xing (male panda) since 2014 in Malaysia.

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) said in a statement that the gender of the panda cub has yet to be identified as it is still under the care of its mother and cannot be approached.

“The birth of this panda cub is another success brought by the Giant Panda conservation efforts under the Giant Panda Conservation International Cooperation Agreement Programme between the governments of Malaysia and China signed in 2012.

“The zookeepers of the National Zoo will continue to monitor and supervise Liang Liang and the cub for the next 24 hours,” the statement detailed.

The first and second cub, Nuan Nuan and Yi Yi were born on August 18, 2015 and January 14, 2018 respectively.

Nuan Nuan was housed at the National Zoo’s Giant Panda Conservation Center (GPCC) for 27 months before being sent to Dujiangyan Panda Base, Sichuan in China on November 14, 2017.
