Mobile Photography to Showcase the Community’s Potential

The Perak Mobile Photography Competition hosted by People of Remarkable Talents (PORT) opens a new dimension in helping the community showcase their creative talents through mobile phones.

According to PORT General Manager, Nur Hanim Mohamed Khairuddin, this is the fourth time the competition has been held since 2017. Running under the theme of portraits, this year’s competition took place from May 22 till June 3.

“This program gives people an opportunity to unleash their potential during this Movement Control Order (MCO) which has been extended till June 28.

“The competition allows Perakians who do not own a DSLR camera to express their creativity, besides highlighting the importance of photography in society today,” he said in a media statement today (June 16).

Aside from Nur Hanim and PORT manager, Syed Zarul Hisham Syed Khairuddin as the jury, two other professionals, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Photography and Creative Imaging, Faculty of Art and Design from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM) Perak, Mohd Radzuan Mohd Rafee and Assistant Curator of the National Art Gallery, Mohd Khazrul Sharuddin were also invited.

Nur Hanim said a total of 295 units from 150 entries were divided into four categories, namely, ‘beauty shot’, ‘artistic portrait’, ‘children’ and ‘journalistic portrait’. Judging is based on contemporary narrative elements, composition, as well as aesthetic and technical consideration of photography.

“Aside from producing talents in photography who can contribute to the historical and socio-economic status of Perak, it also enlivens the world of creative arts among the community,” he said.

Ain Qhalysha grabbed first place and took home RM700, while Mazline Nik Ahmad came in second with RM500, Ikhwan Alif Hanep third with RM400, Amirruddin Zulkifli fourth with RM200 and sixth to 10th place winners received a consolation prize of RM100 each.
