Helping Local Residents via Gerobok Rezeki Opah Minah

Gerobok Rezeki Opah Minah (Rezeki Opah Minah’s Pantry or GROM), despite its small size, has been benefiting the community especially the residents of Kampung Tua, Tanjung Belanja in Parit since two months ago.

Ahmad Mizuan Ahamad Tekmizi, 39, explained that GROM has basic food items which are given free of charge to the needy especially during the current period of Movement Control Order (MCO).

“The effort is a family initiative in continuing the habit of giving of my late grandmother, Aminah Abdul Zabry who passed away in 2018 at the age of 81.

“GROM is named after her as she was fondly called ‘Opah Minah’ by the family and the villagers.

“We built the pantry with the permission of the land owner and with a construction cost of almost RM3,000. Starting with RM250, I purchase basic necessities to be placed in the pantry’s cupboard,” he told Ipoh Echo during an interview recently.

Opah Minah, who was very amiable and liked to donate, was well-loved by the villagers. Whenever there was good news in the family, she would surely donate by providing food to the devotees at the mosque as well as neighbours.

Ahmad Mizuan did not let his work as an assistant engineer at Perak Tengah District Council stop him from continuing the charity work. In fact, he obtained support from his siblings including his 20 cousins who are also the grandchildren of Opah Minah.

“We work together to prepare items like rice, flour, tea bags, sugar and more at the pantry to be given out for free.

“The support from the villagers and the people from the outside is very encouraging. Individuals who would like to contribute in any form can contact me at 012-3361342.

“Monetary donations to purchase necessities can also be made via my sibling’s Maybank account, 162405010603 (Ahmad Sahriman),” he added.

Bustanuddin Bustamam, a 72-year-old resident at the village aids the noble effort of Opah Minah’s family.

“Since GROM was established, it has helped the needy. To support this effort, I always ensure that the pantry is taken care of and provide any updates on latest developments to the villagers.

“I hope that more would come forward to donate sincerely for the wellbeing of all,” he said.

Those who would like to send contributions directly can do so at GROM located at Batu 1, Jalan Baharu, Kg Tg Belanja, 32800, Parit, Perak.
