Police Explain Viral Photo

The Sungai Siput District Police Headquarters (IPD) provided an explanation on the pictures depicting several foreign workers with pink wristbands who were assumed to be roaming around Sungai Siput on August 19.

Sungai Siput District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin said, the investigation done found that the employees were instructed by the Kuala Kangsar District Health Office to attend the COVID-19 screening test at the factory they worked at on the same day the pictures went viral on Facebook. 

“The order was issued after six factory workers tested positive for COVID-19. Upon completion of the screening test, the workers were given pink wristbands and were instructed to return to their dormitory.

“The results of the police investigation found that the viral pictures showed the factory workers on their way back to the hostel, and some had stopped by a nearby shop to buy necessities throughout the quarantine period,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Since the pictures were circulated on Facebook, they have attracted attention and criticism from netizens.
