Artists and creative industry entrepreneurs received good news following the government’s readiness to relax the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) for the industry starting September 9.
It will provide relief to over a million activists, artists and workers in the field, in addition to 19,000 creative industry companies.
The Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the agreement to ease the restrictions is subject to the conditions of the SOPs approved by the National Security Council (MKN).
According to him, the relaxation is only for activists, employees and consumers who have already completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and they must abide by the capacity of the premises.
“The creative industry contributed about two percent or RM29 billion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2019.
“Apart from enabling more than a million activists, artists and workers to earn a living, this relaxation can also revive the country’s creative industry which has been severely affected by the pandemic,” he said in a statement.
The Prime Minister explained that the easing of restrictions was also allowed based on the fact that there are states that have achieved 80 percent of the adult population receiving two complete doses or have reached herd immunity.
Also allowed is the development and broadcasting of creative content by recording or live broadcast with an audience capacity of 30 percent in the studio space.
“Besides that is filming inside and outside the studio, as well as live performance activities such as theater, musicals, music and comedy (on a pre-registered basis) with an audience capacity of 30 percent in the premises space.
“Art exhibitions in exhibition halls, museums and art galleries by appointment with a visitor capacity of 30 percent in the premises are also allowed,” he said.
