Actor, Film Director and Assistant Pleaded Guilty for Possession of Drugs

An actor, film director and his assistant all pleaded guilty for possession of drugs at the Kuala Kangsar Magistrate Court today (October 12).

Respectively, the accused, Muhamad Niezam Mohd Zaidi, 28; Mohd Latiff Zami, 49; and Saiful Zaidrin Ismail Ismail, 46, made the plea in front of Magistrate Mohd Shazmeer Zamhari.

According to facts of the case, Muhamad Niezam was found in possession of 1.15g of cannabis, while Mohd Latiff with 0.3g of the same drug and Saiful Zaidrin with 0.38g of methamphetamine at a house in Taman Chandan Putri, Kuala Kangsar, at around 7.15am on Sunday (October 10).

Charges were read against Muhamad Niezam and Mohd Latiff under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries punishment of a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if convicted.

For Saiful Zaidrin, he was charged under Section 12(2) of the same Act which subjects him to punishment carrying a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Syuhada Muhammad Lutfi requested for bail of RM6,000 and one surety each for Muhamad Niezam and Mohd Latiff, while for Saiful Zaidrin, RM8,000 and also with one surety.

Representing lawyer for all of the accused, Intan Shafini Mior Shahrin negotiated for a reduction in bail, claiming that they are with dependents and that they lost their sources of income due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The court set bail for Muhamad Niezam, Mohd Latiff and Saiful Zaidrin at RM3,000, RM2,600 and RM3,200 respectively, all with one surety each.

The case was fixed for mention on December 1.
