Renowned Film Director, Mamat Khalid Laid to Rest

Over 300 family members, friends and arts enthusiasts gathered to bid their final farewell to renowned film director, Mamat Khalid, 58, at the Masjid Kampong Paloh Muslim Cemetery today (October 24).

Present were Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and local artists such as Datuk Awie, Pekin Ibrahim, Bell Ngasri, Zul Ariffin, Ava Vanja and Khir Rahman.

The remains of Mamat arrived at the cemetery at 1.53pm after prayers at Masjid Jamek Idris Iskandar Shah 1 in Kampong Sungai Rokam.

Earlier, the remains were taken to his family’s home in Taman Ipoh Jaya Timur 1, Ampang at 6am from the Slim River Hospital.

Ipoh-born Mamat Khalid or his real name, Mohamad Mohamad Khalid passed away at 12.30am at the Slim River Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Hasmah Hassan and five children made up of three sons, Mohd. Khalid Amen; Mohd. Khalid Adam; Mohd. Khalid Zaffa and two daughters, Sara and Nurhassanah.

Among his renowned films are Zombi Kampung Pisang, Hantu Kak Limah, Rock and 18 Puasa di Kampong Pisang.

The late Mamat is also the sibling of popular cartoonist, Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid or Lat.
