Deepavali Bazaar at Little India to Proceed

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) decided that the bazaar in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration will proceed at the open area around the existing stage at Little India without disrupting the surrounding business premises.

Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud explained that MBI will prepare about 11 tents at the designated spot in front of the stage and not in front of the shops along the road at Little India.

“It runs on the concept of bazaar but on a small scale, and we will ensure that it is implemented according to the set standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“At the same time, we will ensure that the tents set up will not obstruct traffic flow and cause congestion at the area,” he said when asked to comment on the opposition by the Little India Traders Association (ILIT) regarding the organisation of the bazaar.

In their opposition, the members of the association voiced their concern on the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak and the emergence of new clusters in the area.
