NCER – Academic Empowerment Programme Aids SPM Students of B40 Families

Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL) continues its effort to aid students of B40 families in Perak as a total of 1,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 candidates are chosen to join a guiding session via the NCER – Academic Empowerment Programme.

IUKL was appointed by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) to carry out the programme to strengthen academic excellence among students.

President and Vice Chancellor of IUKL, Profesor Datuk Dr. Noor Inayah Ya’akub explained that this is the second session after the success of the first which involved 300 SPM 2020 candidates from six selected schools in Kerian district and Larut Matang Selama district.

According to Noor, the second session involves students from five districts, namely Kerian, Larut Matang Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah and Bagan Datuk.

“Besides providing a learning portal, iLearn Ace to teachers and students, IUKL also provides tablets for each student and a special online platform for home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) called Moodle.

“The programme, which is supported by the Ministry of Education, has helped students from B40 families obtain excellent results in the previous SPM examination,” Noor said in a statement.

The programme has also helped schools and teachers improve the teaching and learning method by providing training and the use of the online portal, iLearn Ace.

In the previous session, about 92% of the participants obtained overall pass with an 89% increase in Student Average Grade (Gred Purata Murid) while 26 individuals obtained a result of 5A and above.

Some of them obtained a spot at famous institutions such as Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, matriculation centres and polytechnics besides being offered the opportunity to further their education at a diploma level at IUKL.

Noor added that the results were encouraging despite the fact that the students were facing the pandemic challenges during PdPR. It also reflected the efficiency of the teachers’ guidance.

“Besides that, 54% of the total students have obtained a spot to further their education whether at foundation, diploma, certificate or Form 6 levels.

“IUKL is grateful to be able to collectively contribute energy and share expertise, technology and advice to help schools, especially the students whom we called ‘ProMax’, till many had succeeded in the SPM 2020 examination,” Noor shared.
