Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud hopes for the community to always teach and practice cleanliness from young at home to produce individuals who care for the environment.
He said that proper use of trash bins should be made into a habit among citizens so that the quality of the environment can be improved in line with the goals set by the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
“The habit of hanging rubbish on tree branches and fences should be stopped as it not only ruins the scenery, but also makes timely garbage collection difficult.
“The infrastructures prepared by the MBI will never be enough as long as members of the community refuse to involve themselves in the issue of garbage management that begins at home.
“MBI hopes to educate the citizens of Ipoh towards cultivating a habit to care for the environment by turning Zone 1 into an exemplary zone and creating a sense of collective responsibility when it comes to taking care of the environment,” he said.
He said this after overseeing the distribution of 480 garbage bins (120-litre capacity each) for free at Kampung Baru Tanah Hitam in conjunction with the Cultivating Habit of Trash Bin Use Programme today (January 23).
Also present were MBI Council Member, Datuk Mazlan Abd. Rahman and the Deputy Health Director of MBI, Manisegaran Subramaniam.
Previously, around 12,369 units of rubbish bins have been provided by the MBI to Bandar Baru Putra, Desa Pakatan, Bandar Baru Menglembu, Taman Buntong Ria, Taman Bersatu, Simpang Pulai, Taman Kelebang Jaya, Meru and Manjoi since July 2021.
A remainder of 100,000 units of bins are set to be distributed in stages to other residential areas within the next five years.
Rumaizi reminded all to observe the set garbage collection schedule and ensure that trash bins are placed in front of the house in a timely manner.
“Rubbish should also be kept in plastic bags that facilitate easy collection and disposal.
“MBI hopes that all Ipoh citizens will show their cooperation in practicing proper use of trash bins and help smoothen the process of household garbage disposal,” he said.
