State Arts, Culture and Heritage Appreciation Programmes to Run from July to December

A total of 10 appreciation programmes for arts, culture and heritage will take place in Perak from July to December this year.

The appreciation programmes are jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Perak state government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for arts and culture and local authorities.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said a grant of RM1.18 million was allocated to cover part of the cost of the programmes.

“The programmes cover the fields of culture, visual arts, theater, music, literature, crafts and dance.

“The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has allocated grants amounting to RM 1.18 million through matching grants from the cultural sector to several NGOs for arts and culture.

“The rest of the cost of the programmes is borne by the state government,” she said.

She said this to reporters at a special press conference for the appreciation programmes at the Perak Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) on Wednesday.

Present were Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud, JKKN Director-General, Mesran bin Mohd Yusop and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Tourism Perak, Dato’ Mohamad Kamil Shafie.

Nolee Ashilin said the programmes aim to create a big impact in the effort to recover and invigorate activities of cultural arts, post-COVID-19.

“I hope this effort will receive good cooperation from various parties, as the effort to enhance the identity of Malaysians through arts, culture and heritage is a collective task.

“This initiative creates a platform to improve synergy and cooperation between sector operators.

“It makes Perak a preferred destination and improves the economy of industry players,” she added.

Among the programmes that will be organised during the months are the Perak State Heritage Traditional Food Festival, Perak State Cultural Festival and Perak State Craft Festival.

Also to be held are the 4th Ipoh Music Symposium, 10th International Poetry and Folk Song Festival, Perak State Malaysia Dance Festival, Perak State Children’s Dance Championship and theater performances.
