Stricter Penalties for Illegal Dumping of Wastes

Stricter action will be taken against any party that is responsible for dumping illegal waste in the city, said the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud.

Rumaizi stressed that the details of the punishment for the perpetrators will be announced next week at the latest, as they are being refined before being implemented.

“The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will release a statement… maybe next week. But we will definitely take more decisive action regarding this issue.

“This matter is serious and should not be seen as a small issue,” he said at a press conference after the Inauguration Ceremony for the launch of 2 Garbage Compactor Trucks at the MBI building grounds on Friday.

Earlier, while chairing the MBI Plenary Meeting in July, the issues of illegal garbage, stray dogs and flash floods in Ipoh were raised.

Some of the members of the council want the perpetrators of the issue of illegal garbage to be subject to stricter action, in order to prevent the problem from recurring.

Among the approaches voiced was imposing a higher compound on parties responsible for throwing illegal waste. This proposal was supported by Councillors, who believe that would be the only way to deter the parties involved from repeating the act.
