Taiping, known for being a heritage town, will soon be flooded with hundreds of foreign guests to witness the Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition 2022, which are to be held at Dataran Warisan.

This inaugural festival will be attended by more than 500 participants from several countries in Southeast Asia. Tourism Perak CEO, Nurmalis Musa said the presence of the participants will play various roles including judges, conductors, participants for performing the lion dance and as guests.

“So far, a total of 15 international lion dance groups have confirmed their participation including those from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

“It is also understood that participation will increase from time to time according to the latest developments of COVID-19 as related to the relaxation of travel restrictions at the country’s entrance.

“Malaysia has also announced the participation of a total of 15 groups that will showcase their acrobatics and lion dance skills”, he said in a press conference representing the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammad Radzi, in conjunction with the Launching Ceremony of the Taiping Global Festival and Lion Dance Competition in Hotel MH yesterday.

Before that, Nurmalis officiated the Launch of the Logo and Website of the Global Taping Festival and Lion Dance Competition. The design of the logo showcases the elements of multi-ethnic celebrations as well as the culture, heritage, art and nature of Taiping.

Nurmalis said that this festival has great potential to become an annual event but it depends on the response of the community and support from the organizations involved.

“This festival is organized by Six Sense Group together with Koperasi Waris and Kerabat Raja Negeri Perak Berhad. The lion dance competition is led by the Chairman of the Lion and Dance Performance International Council, Francis Teo with the support of the Hong Teik Association, which has 48 members and 40 international affiliates”, he said.
