ACS Holds Founder’s Day Event

SMK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh held their Founder’s Day 2022 event today, celebrating the life and contributions of their school’s founder, Reverend William Edward Horley (1870-1931) and 127 year history of the school.

A marching band played the guests to their seats with the event proceeding promptly after the national anthem and a welcoming speech by the principal, Mr. John Seeni.

Of particular note were two performances by the students. The first being a roleplay session which detailed the history of Reverend Horley, performed by Koghulan Thanabalan and Colin Teh Jon Ryan. The second performance was a recital b Ain Ufairah Bt Amiruddin and Muhammad Faris B Mohd Rashidi  all of whom showed exceptional poise in their presentations.

Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr. Lai Thian Seong and President of the ACS Ipoh Alumni, Dato Lean Meng Seong, both gave a brief speech in which they discussed the pioneering spirit of Reverend Horley, who was only 25 when he was sent to start a school in Ipoh, which at the time, was surrounded by dense jungles. From there, he would go on to found 27 schools throughout his career.

The event was officially launched by former student & Principal of SMK ACS Ipoh, Mr. Victor Chew, whom readers of Ipoh Echo may be familiar with for his many philanthropic ventures, such as the Go GreenPerak City recycling centre and the food drives for the needy.
