Calling All Volunteers: Merdeka Clean-up Initiated by Trash Hero Ipoh

In conjunction with the National Day, a Merdeka clean-up initiated by Trash Hero Ipoh (THI) will be held on August 31 from 5.30pm at the Ipoh Railway Station.

It is open to everyone to join and no sign-up is required – just show up!

Organised with strict adherence to the health and safety standard operating procedures, participants must fulfill the following conditions: have a healthy body, have not had close contact with COVID-19 patients, and face masks must be worn at all times during the clean-up.

Tools such as rubbish sacks are provided. Do take note to bring your own hand gloves and drinking water bottles. You can also bring a litter picker along.

Established in January 2019, Trash Hero Ipoh is a non-profit organisation under the global volunteer-led movement, Trash Hero World.

The objective of Trash Hero Ipoh is to create awareness that keeping our environment clean is a collective responsibility that we all share.

The weekly clean-ups initiated by Trash Hero Ipoh are mostly held on weekends.

During each session, data is collected to identify problems and the kind of trash most likely to be found in a spot. After that, it will be submitted to the authorities for the next course of action.

To date, 117 clean-ups have been carried out involving 1021 volunteers, out of which 92 were children. A total of 2,348.185kg of trash have been collected, with 36,744kg recycled. The collected litter was made up of 28,395 cigarette butts and 790 masks among others.
