Parliament Is Dissolved Today

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament effective today after the King’s approval to make way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Prime Minister made the special announcement which was broadcast live across the country at 3pm this afternoon through television channels and social media.

“This is following my audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah whereby I submitted a request letter to His Majesty, regarding the dissolution of the Parliament -14.

“In accordance with Article 40(2)(b) and Article 55(2) of the Federal Constitution, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has acted according to His Majesty’s discretion by granting my request, that the 14th Parliament be dissolved today, Monday 10 October 2022,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said that he recommended the heads of state governments except for the State Governments of Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor to take appropriate action for the dissolution of their respective State Assemblies (DUN) on the same date as the general election at the federal level, although some states have decided not to dissolve their respective state assemblies.

He said, it should be implemented simultaneously to ensure that the people are not burdened in addition to ensuring the smoothness of the democratic process and to save costs.

“Meanwhile, the determination of the dates of candidate nomination day and voting day as well as other related matters, are subject to the decision of the Election Commission (SPR).
