By Anne Das

The food industry was stunned with the recall of Prego’s popular creamy mushroom carbonara pasta sauce produced in Malaysia.

The health ministry has confirmed that the Prego Carbonara Mushroom pasta sauce produced in Malaysia is being pulled off shelves due to product spoilage. The signs of damage are noticeable such as an unpleasant smell, color changes, a watery appearance, and a separate layer of liquid on the product.

According to the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Campbell Cheong Chan (M) Sdn Bhd identified the cause of the damage as a result of an error during processing.

The ministry, through its food safety and quality division, said it would be monitoring the product’s recall process. The affected products – under lot number 2022081716 – were produced on Aug 17, 2022 from 10.18pm to 11.20pm. They have an expiry date of Aug 17, 2023.

The ministry advised those who have consumed the product to see a doctor if they feel unwell or are experiencing symptoms of food poisoning.

For any information or concerns regarding this issue, the ministry said consumers can contact the nearest district health office through its website or Facebook page.
