Ipoh- A total of 7,000 packages of nasi briyani (briyani rice) were distributed within two hours at the Sultan Idris Shah ll Mosque compound (State Mosque) this afternoon.

Hundreds of people lined up from 3.00 pm to get the briyani rice packages that were distributed from 3.30 pm.

The Nasi Briyani Distribution Program, now in its fourth year, is organized by the Perak Indian Muslim Association (PRIM) in collaboration with the State Mosque and the Perak Media Sports & Welfare Club.

PRIM chairman, Mohd Arib Aliah said the preparation of the briyani rice involved three restaurants and the packaging was done voluntarily by members of the association involved.

“7,000 packets of biryani rice is the highest number since this program was organized. At first we distributed biryani rice at Masjid India but now at Masjid Negeri because the area is bigger and makes it easier for people to queue.

“Since a long time ago, we have been preparing biryani rice with the ‘red chicken’ menu. This menu is suitable for all groups of the community to be enjoyed with Muslims breaking their fast,” he said during a press conference before the distribution of biryani rice began.

Meanwhile, the Grand Imam of Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque, Abdul Farid Salleh said this program is a good effort in the month of Ramadan as required by Islam.

“Feeding fasting people is encouraged by Islam because it will give a great reward.

“In addition to providing benefits, it can also strengthen unity among various multi-ethnic communities,” he said.
