Ipoh: The implementation of the Smart City Action Plan is designed to address urban issues involving the local population.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, stated that this plan is crafted with a core principle of being ‘human-centric’.

“MBI (Ipoh City Council) is guided by the core principles of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 17), which aims to foster collaboration between the city’s residents and the business sector.

“The plan aims to facilitate cooperation between business entities, such as Econsave, and cooperative companies to assist the city’s residents regardless of their race or religion,” he said during a forum at the 9th Asian Smart City Conference & Exhibition 2023 held at Connexion@Nexus, Bangsar South last night.

Furthermore, the MBI Cares program is implemented during every festive season and school reopening.

“MBI serves as a mediator to ensure that businesses in Ipoh contribute to the welfare of the city’s residents.

“Another example of this is the transformation into a ‘cashless society.’

“In collaboration with Maybank Berhad in 2021, every Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh was mandated to use e-wallets as the primary mode of transaction in their business operations.

“MBI and Maybank are now intensifying efforts to promote the use of e-wallets in various locations, including Night Markets and tourist areas,” he added.
