YB Loh, Appeals to KTMB to Add KTM- Komuter Stop at Batu Gajah Station

By Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

Taiping – Tourism Executive, Loh Sze Yee, has urged Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to add a stop at the Batu Gajah train station to attract more tourists to the area.

According to Loh, Batu Gajah now boasts several new and attractive tourism products with great potential, such as the Silverlakes Village Outlet and Galeri Rumah Lat.

“Currently, there are only three KTM-Komuter stops in the Northern region – Ipoh, Sungai Siput, and Kuala Kangsar. If KTMB adds a stop at Batu Gajah Station, it will facilitate the public, especially tourists.

“I also suggest extending KTM-Komuter services from Ipoh to Tanjung Malim. This proposal is likely to be well-received, especially by those who enjoy travelling by train,” he said during a press conference at the Rail Tourism Package Launch at Laman Budaya Taiping today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zain Mat Taha, Chief Operating Officer of KTMB, stated that the Rail Tourism Package launch is a smart collaboration with Tourism Perak to enhance the excitement of Visit Perak 2024.

“The Rail Tourism Package offers visitors the opportunity to explore tourism products in the state of Perak using train services.

“Rail transport has long been synonymous with Perak and has played a crucial role in the economic growth of the state. Looking back at history, railway transportation in Perak dates back to 1885 with the opening of the first railway line between Taiping and Port Weld (now known as Kuala Sepetang),” he said.

As part of the collaboration, KTMB is offering a 15% discount on ETS train services to the public purchasing the Perak Rail Tourism Package through six registered agencies with Tourism Perak. These agencies include Asia City Trip, Unforgettable Tour Sdn Bhd, Rayhan Haramain Tour Sdn Bhd, Ipoh Overland Tours and Travel, Karya Merdeka Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd, and Golden Century Tour & Travel Sdn Bhd.
